I work with Maine farm families and landowners to plan and implement transitions that keep farms intact and in agricultural use for the next generation. My focus is on structuring land ownership and transfer arrangements in a way that protects working farmland, reduces uncertainty, and supports long-term stewardship.
In addition to my legal practice, I operate a beef cattle herd in Maine. As a farmer myself, I understand firsthand the financial pressures, family dynamics, and long-term commitment required to sustain a working farm. That perspective informs my approach to transition planning: practical, land-focused, and grounded in the realities of agricultural life.
My practice includes lifetime transfer planning, deed preparation and review, co-ownership and tenancy planning, easements, and addressing title issues that can complicate succession. I help families anticipate common pitfalls—such as unintended co-ownership or unclear transfer terms—so that transitions are legally sound and aligned with the family’s vision for the land.
My goal is simple: thoughtful legal planning that helps ensure today’s farms remain farms tomorrow.
